The Scranton Area Foundation awarded a $2,000 grant to UCP of NEPA's Lekotek program for ongoing support. The grant is through the Macialek Irrevocable Gas Trust, which the Foundation administers. During a visit, foundation officials saw some of the toys used in Lekotek sessions. Call the center to ask about the program.
Organizers of Fit Stock 5 surpassed their own $10,000 goal, raising more than $13,000 over two days. The event centered on a high energy workout set to live music at the Blakely Borough Recreational Complex. A pre-registration party and an after party rounded out the weekend.
UCP of NEPA marked 62 years of service at its Annual Meeting and Staff Appreciation Dinner, held June 30th at The Melting Pot in Scranton. New officers were named for the coming term, and three staff members were honored for their years of service.
Families often ask what a day looks like here. At UCP of NEPA's Children's Center, early intervention services are provided in the child's natural environment, whether that is home, a child care center, or the community. Trained staff work with children and families on goals that fit each child. Call the center to ask about schedules and how a first visit works.
The work continues at home. In monthly Lekotek sessions at the center, children play with typical and specially adapted toys chosen for their developmental needs and goals.
