What this looks like in practice

An assistive technology resource center is a place to try a device before you commit to it. Families meet with an AT specialist, who watches how a child reaches, grips, sits, or speaks, then matches a tool to that need. Equipment goes home on loan by appointment, so a child can use it in the same rooms where they eat, play and sleep.

A switch a child can press, a seat that holds them steady, a device that gives them words: these change what happens at the dinner table and on the living room floor. A child who could not ask for a drink learns to ask. A child who could not join the puzzle can place the piece. Small tools, ordinary evenings, more of a child in the middle of them.

A boy in a dark t-shirt sits cross-legged on colorful foam mats holding two green sticks while other people stand nearby in a room with a wheelchair.
